Biography for Niyaso Carter

For over 18 years, Niyaso Carter has been guiding, teaching and counseling individuals in the area of sacred sexuality. In India, where she lived and studied for several years, she was introduced to Tantra as a spiritual way of life. Later she went on to study psychology and her work is now a synthesis of her eastern and western training. As an expert in her field, Niyaso leads workshops and retreats around the world. She is well known for co-creating the best-selling educational video "The Secrets of Sacred Sex” - which has introduced thousands of people to a life of more love, intimacy and pleasure.

Niyaso is a workshop facilitator and counselor with extensive training and experience. As well as teaching about sacred sexuality her work in the realm of spirituality and personal growth also includes relationship skills training, trauma healing, advising teenagers and guiding women's circles. She currently lives and works on Maui, Hawaii, and travels to teach.

Niyaso's work is a synthesis of her training in both Eastern Tantric, Taoist, and Buddhist practices and Western psychological approaches to growth and healing. During her early training she spent four years living and studying at an ashram in India with Baghwan Shree Rajneesh (now known as Osho) There she learned meditation, Tantra, Yoga, and practices to enhance human potential. Her subsequent study of Western psychology has focused on humanistic therapies, including inner child work, co-dependency, grief and trauma work, movement therapy, breath work, communication skills and energy work. Her teaching and counseling is shaped amongst others by the work and trainings pioneered by psychologist Peter Levine (author of Waking the Tiger: Healing Trauma), by spiritual and relationship teacher David Deida, and by psychotherapist Bert Hellinger's shamanic concept of family constellations. Her work with sexuality has been deeply influenced by Australian spiritual teacher Barry Long and her teaching of Taoist practices is inspired by master Mantak Chia and Jolan Chang.

In 1993 Niyaso co-created the best-selling educational video "The Secrets of Sacred Sex", which teaches couples how to transform sex into a truly intimate, fulfilling, and spiritual experience. In the early 1990s, along with tantric teacher and facilitator Alan Lowen and hypnotherapy trainer and expert Paul Carter Ph.D. she created and taught the Body, Heart, and Soul workshop series that guide participants to joy and fulfillment in intimate loving, as well as the related Body, Heart, and Soul two-year training course for counselors and other practitioners. In 1996 she co-founded the Sacred Loving Programs together with Paul Carter, Ph.D. Niyaso is certified in hypnotherapy, and is an experienced body worker and a licensed trainer in Avatar, a program that teaches conscious creating.

Niyaso's empowering workshops for women on sexual healing and opening to joy help women to heal, awaken and celebrate their unique feminine qualities and innate potential for ecstasy through meditations, Tantric practices, movement, energy work, and sharing.

Niyaso has presented workshops in the United States, England, Germany, Switzerland, and Australia and has traveled with her clients to Mexico and Asia for transformational vacation retreats. Her work has been featured in a number of television documentaries and articles in the United States and Australia.

Niyaso's two veins of training, Eastern and Western, allow her to guide her clients on a journey to wholeness and fulfillment from the spiritual, emotional, energetic, and physical perspectives. It goes without saying that she has devoted many years to her own spiritual and emotional path of healing and awakening, inspired by her desire to learn about love, create joy and beauty, and be of service to others.
